Savonius wind turbine
A genius, a widespread turbine bearing the name of its inventor, can benefit the energy of the wind from the low speed and at the same time, it is structurally very simple and the final product from a variety of materials.
If it's built its axis perpendicular to the earth's surface, is the vertical and omni-directional turbine – wind blows from anywhere and the turbine responds instantly – it does not lose time to reprogram as necessary for propeller turbines. Therefore, it is well usable in the first few meters above the surface of the ground, where the wind is directionally very often unstable.
It is possible to install it in a horizontal position, but it is in mining the wind not commonly used, because it ceases to be omni-directional. Horizontally is sometimes installed to the water flow as the water turbine.
Innovations as compared to the normal vertical turbine lies in the partial overlap of the opposite of the blades through the axis of the turbine. This enhancement provides a partial negative pull on the back side of the opposite shoulder blade.
And because even the Savonius belongs to a group of resistance turbines, where all the fight focuses on the difference between the acceleration (acceleration), and braking in favor of the acceleration, a little of that energy “from the other side” increases the efficiency of the turbine, which is up to 20%

Yet, it is Savoniova turbine one of the least effective.
Savoniova turbine has in dvoulopatkovém filing your dead angle, i.e. the angle when it is not able to spin up. It is in the practice of eliminating the status of more Savoniových turbines over each other rotated by 90°. Uses three of the blades, or profile rises and at the same time rotates along the axis of the turbine into the helix.
There are many studies examining the most ideal placement of the blades to the rotational center.
Perhaps more interesting are some of the work that you play with the profile of the blades from the slightly esíčkovitých after guttate, or výdutěmi and depressions on the part of the acceleration, so the side of the braking.
It's Savoniova turbine?
There is great confusion in the nomenclature and vertical turbines are used interchangeably for Savoniovu or Savoniusovu turbine. Savoniusova turbine is an improved type of vertical turbine, but not every vertical is at the same time Savoniovou. The name of the turbine refers to its inventor Johannese Savonius Sigurdand who in 1928 he patented turbine with a negative to tension and thus greatly improved the efficiency of vertical turbines. Two blades adjacent to each other, but they overlap one over the other. In the picture in blue shown by the arrow, is part of the energy of the wind, which causes a negative pressure to the opposite blade of the turbine.
Article about Savoniově the turbine will follow soon.
Pros
simple design
omnidirectional, if it is built to the axis perpendicular to the earth's surface
almost noiseless
Risks and limitations
- low efficiency and low power
Turbine doesn't have sky high efficiency. Its construction is very simple and well graspable. Všesměrovost when installing close to the ground is a plus, which Savoniovu turbine predisposes to create landscapes with the unstable direction of the winds.
Often used as a starting turbine for Darrieusovou turbine, which was not able to start. Combined Savonius-Darrieus turbine is the entire facility more effective.
The interesting thing is the use of several axially united turbínek installed on the wall of the house. Here, the authors attempts to exploit wrap the walls of the house.
